New consensus on WTO fishing policy

A broad range of rich and poor countries and environmental organizations on Wednesday endorsed the use of international trade rules to limit government subsidies to the fishing industry.
Trade and agriculture ministers from the United States, the European Union, Brazil, Chile, New Zealand, Senegal and the Philippines joined 11 environmental organizations in calling for the World Trade Organization to ban subsidies that contribute to overfishing. The Species Survival Network (SSN), founded in 1992, is an international coalition of over eighty non-governmental organizations (NGOs) committed to the promotion, enhancement, and strict enforcement of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES). Through scientific and legal research, education and advocacy, the SSN is working to prevent over-exploitation of animals and plants due to international trade.

Paul McCartney has angrily denounced China and vowed never to perform there after seeing 'horrific' undercover film of dogs and cats being brutalised and then killed for their fur.
